Religion’s Tim Beal to discuss ”Bibles Hot and Cold” March 28

In the next Faculty Work-In-Progress session, Tim Beal, the Florence Harkness Professor of Religion, will lead a discussion titled “Bibles Hot and Cold.”

Biblical scholars in the early decades of the print era were aware their challenge was not simply to put biblical content into pre-formatted media but, rather, to invent biblical media. Beal will reflect on how particular practices of media technology shape both our processes and publication of research. He will present his preliminary work on a new translation of Job in both analog and digital forms: as a hand-set letterpress book and as a digital site.

Beal’s talk, sponsored by the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities, will take place Thursday, March 28, at 4:30 p.m. in Clark Hall 206.
