The University Center for Innovation in Teaching and Education (UCITE) at Case Western Reserve University will start a second Book Club Learning Community in spring 2024.
The aim of this learning community is to create an informal space for colleagues from across campus to connect with one another around teaching and learning. This spring, the club will explore How Humans Learn: The Science and Stories Behind Effective College Teaching by Joshua Eyler. The book was a hit with the fall 2024 semester’s cohort for, amongst other things, its focus on topics that we do not often consider to be a part of our work as instructors, such as curiosity and failure. It also offers some great strategies for supporting student learning.
The group will meet every alternate Wednesday beginning Jan. 24, in a venue to be confirmed. Even though the community is designed to be informal, it is important that participants can attend at least 80% of the meetings—this helps to build supportive relationships.
UCITE will provide a copy of the text for participants to keep. Space is limited to 12 people.
