Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to attend a lecture titled “Reducing Nuclear Weapons and the Risk of Nuclear War” by Steve Fetter, associate provost and dean of the Graduate School and professor of public policy at the University of Maryland. Hosted by the Department of Physics, this session will be held Thursday, Nov. 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.
The cold war ended 30 years ago, but the risks posed by nuclear weapons have grown, not receded. The American Physical Society has formed a coalition for nuclear threat reduction of which Fetter is a founding member. His talk is part of a national series arranged by the American Physical Society.
Fetter served with distinction in the President Barack Obama’s administration and is the recipient of numerous major awards, including most recently the 2021 Leo Szilard Prize of the American Physical Society.
The lecture is free and open to the public. The subject is at the intersection of physics, engineering, public policy and international relation. It is open to all faculty, staff and students. For information on how to attend and to view the abstract of the talk, visit the physics department’s fall 2020 colloquium website.
