“Re-envisioning Long-Term Care: Multiple Perspectives on Advancing Quality”

Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing will welcome MT Connolly, author of The Measure of Our Age, and Terry Fulmer, president of the John A. Hartford Foundation, for a talk titled “Re-envisioning Long-Term Care: Multiple Perspectives on Advancing Quality” Friday, Oct. 11, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The event will be hybrid format, with in-person attendees meeting at the Health Education Campus.

During this lunchtime talk and discussion, the speakers will examine the roots of mistreatment in long-term care, including nursing homes, assisted living, continuing care retirement communities and other residential settings.

Connolly is a national expert on elder justice who was awarded a MacArthur “genius” grant for her work, which has shaped policy, research and practice for decades. She was the architect of the federal Elder Justice Act and co-designed the person-centered restorative RISE model. Her book, The Measure of Our Age: Navigating Care, Safety, Money, and Meaning Later in Life, examines how we balance autonomy, safety and other ethical issues of aging.

Fulmer is president of the John A. Hartford Foundation, a foundation dedicated to improving the care of older adults. She is known for development of the age-friendly health systems movement and the national Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program.
