“The Rapid Modernization of Industrial Data and Control using Linux-Based Frameworks”

President and CEO of Applied Dynamics Scott James will give a talk titled “The Rapid Modernization of Industrial Data and Control using Linux-Based Frameworks” Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in White Building, Room 411. The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems.

About the talk

James will focus on trends and technology disrupting traditional industrial control and data.

Less than a decade ago, open source real-time Linux was deemed not sufficiently high-performing to be used on serious data and control applications. But with steady improvements seen in real-time Linux performance year after year and high-visibility projects such as the real-time Linux Yocto Project, a rapid shift from expensive commercial real-time operating systems to no-cost, real-time Linux is changing the economics of industrial data and control.
