Public Affairs Discussion Group to examine tensions in Israel

Presenter Guy Ben-PoratAt the next Public Affairs Discussion Group on Friday, Feb. 15, Guy Ben-Porat, senior lecturer in public policy and administration at Ben Gurion University of the Negev, will lead a talk titled “Between Alienation and Cooperation: Israel’s Police and Israel’s Arab Citizens.”

Ben-Porat earned his PhD in political science from Johns Hopkins University. His work, Global Liberalism, Local Populism: Peace and Conflict in Israel/Palestine and Northern Ireland (Syracuse University Press 2006), was awarded the Ernst-Otto Czempiel Prize of the Peace Research Institute of Frankfurt in 2008. Ben-Porat’s research also has included overviews of modern Israeli politics, the Middle East peace process, the contradictions of Israeli citizenship and the relationship between business and politics.

The talk will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Dampeer Room of the Kelvin Smith Library.

Since 1989, faculty, emeriti, students and staff have gathered on Fridays for a brown-bag lunch and to discuss topics in public affairs.
