Psychology’s Sandra Russ finds link between creativity and math performance

Groundbreaking research presented at local symposium on girls

The Plain Dealer: Sandra Russ, professor of psychology, presented her significant findings during the Center for Research on Girls at Laurel School’s biennial symposium. She found that students who displayed high levels of creativity while playing also scored higher on math tests. “We think it’s because when they pretend play, kids are getting practice at manipulating symbols in their heads,” Russ said.
