Tear-filled farewells
Pregnancy and Newborn MagazineAmy Przeworski, assistant professor of psychological sciences, explained the importance of leaving one’s baby from time to time, no matter how hard it may be for both parent and child. “Parents may feel guilty and think that perhaps what is best for the child is to remain with the parent at all times,” she said. “But children need to learn how to regulate their own emotions and handle being separate from their parents. The bond between [mother and baby] will not be damaged by this separation.”
