Chicago Tribune: Phillip Resnick, professor of psychiatry, discussed the success—or lack thereof—of the insanity defense. “The defense, raised in about 1 percent of felonies nationwide, is successful just 15 to 25 percent of the time,” he said. “Most acquitted by reason of insanity will spend more time locked up than a defendant who is found guilty.”
