Faculty can look forward to continued access to two widely used instructional technologies—Poll Everywhere and Gradescope—which have become highly beneficial to teaching and learning at Case Western Reserve University.
These tools will remain available through support from the Office of the Provost, which has committed to continuing their funding as part of a broader effort to strengthen the undergraduate educational experience.
“These tools have become integral to how we engage students and assess learning,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Joy K. Ward. “Continuing our investment ensures that faculty have access to tools that make their teaching more effective and inclusive, as well as helping to save their precious time.”
Poll Everywhere allows faculty to gather real-time student responses during class using mobile devices. The platform promotes active learning and helps instructors gauge student understanding in the moment, encouraging deeper participation from all students, including those less likely to speak up in large lectures.
Gradescope, originally introduced through a pilot program, streamlines the grading process for written assignments, problem sets, and exams. It saves faculty time by automating repetitive tasks and facilitates more consistent, transparent, and equitable grading across sections and instructors.
The extension of Gradescope marks its official transition from a pilot to a centrally supported service. Nearly 80 faculty participated in the pilot, which began in July of 2024.
Faculty who are interested in using these services should reach out to the [U]Tech Teaching + Learning Technologies (TLT) team for support and training opportunities. Faculty who participated in the pilot will continue to have uninterrupted access. For Poll Everywhere support and training, visit the TLT Poll Everywhere website or email polleverywhere@case.edu.
