The Plain Dealer: A recent study found that women with breast cancer who choose to have double mastectomies generally don’t need it—confirming what many surgeons have long thought. “The concern is, they don’t want to have to deal with [another diagnosis] again. I can understand that,” said Robert Shenk, associate professor of surgery. “But it’s a lot more surgery and the complications are a lot higher.”
