All members of the campus community are invited to attend the Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods‘ (PRCHN) upcoming seminar, “Local Policies and Interventions to Address Diet-Related Health Disparities.”
Caitlin Caspi, associate professor in the Department of Allied Health Sciences at University of Connecticut, will discuss several local policy actions and community-led health interventions centered in Minneapolis that address diet-related health outcomes. She will include a discussion of rigorous evaluations of the Staple Foods Ordinance, the Minimum Wage Ordinance, and efforts to improve the charitable food system. This presentation will be addressed in the context of current social and policy events.
Caspi evaluates policies and interventions addressing social determinants of health, particularly food insecurity, diet and obesity. She completed her doctorate at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Minnesota. She resides in Connecticut, where she grew up. She serves as the principal investigator on two NIH-funded studies, one in the charitable food system and the other is evaluating an upstream local minimum wage policy’s effects on diet-related outcomes.
