Power of Diversity Lecture: “Structural Racism and Its Impact on Mental Healthcare” with Cheryl D. Willis

All members of the campus community are invited to join in attending a Power of Diversity Lecture titled “Structural Racism and Its Impact on Mental Healthcare,” Thursday, Nov. 4, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Tinkham Veale University Center, Ballroom C. Cheryl D. Willis, associate professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, will present this lecture, hosted by Office for Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity.

In addition to her role at CWRU, Cheryl D. Willis is director of child and adolescent forensic psychiatric services at University Hospitals of Cleveland. Her interests include occupational, community and correctional psychiatry. 

Wills also serves on the American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Trustees and chaired its APA Presidential Task Force on Structural Racism. She has co-authored treatment guidelines with the APA Guideline Writing Group. She is actively involved in the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Her publications focus on forensic and clinical aspects of psychiatric practice.

Wills teaches locally and nationally on matters pertaining to mental health and law. Her skillset makes her an effective advocate for the profession and an effective consultant to healthcare professionals, businesses, attorneys, medical boards and legislators.
