Power of Diversity Lecture Series: “What Is Next with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education”

The Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Engagement sponsors the Power of Diversity Lecture Series to inspire campus dialogue, community engagement and civic education and learning about the national narrative on diversity and inclusion. Now in its 10th year, the series includes distinguished guest speakers from the national and international scene, as well as members of the Case Western Reserve University campus community.

The fall 2023 series will open with a discussion titled “What Is Next with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Higher Education” Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. in the Linsalata Alumni Center’s Foster-Castele Great Hall.

The panel will be composed of:

  • Robert L. Solomon, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusive engagement at CWRU;
  • Phillip “Flapp” Cockrell, vice president for campus engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion at Cleveland State University; and 
  • Randi Congleton, chief diversity and inclusion officer at Baldwin Wallace University.

Fall 2023 Power of Diversity Lecture Series schedule

Featuring: Keri November 

Friday, Oct. 20, at 12:30 p.m.

Keri November is a full-time lecturer of American Sign Language (ASL) at CWRU. She is actively involved in the Deaf community, attends ASL workshops, ASL events and gives lectures throughout the United States. She is also the co-founder of Tremont Brainery.

Featuring: John Bickers

Friday, Nov. 10, at 12:30 p.m.

John Bickers, is a North Star Faculty member at CWRU. He researches early American history and is a citizen of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. He is revising the manuscript for his first book, The Miami Nation: A Middle Path for Indigenous Nationhood, an exploration of the political history of the Miami Tribe through the 19th and early 20th centuries.
