“Polish and European Immigration and Integration Policies in the Context of Refugee Crisis”

Marcin Gońda, the Kościuszko Foundation Fellow at the University of Lodz, will give a lecture titled “Polish and European Immigration and Integration Policies in the Context of Refugee Crisis” Thursday, Nov. 8, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Mandel Center for Community Studies, Room 105.

About the lecture

The recent migrant and refugee crisis in Europe has given new urgency to questions of immigration and integration policies. Political decisions to open the borders to all those seeking asylum and then to attempt to keep them outside of the European Union territory have strongly divided leaders and public opinion. This lecture will reflect on the decision-making processes in immigration and integration policies in Poland and other European states in the last years and to contribute to the theoretical and practical debate arguing that—contrarily to what is often assumed—immigration policy should not be treated as having precedence before integration policy.

Graduate students who attend will receive one professional development hour.
