Plastic surgeon to discuss career path in academia at April 22 lecture

Neligan, professor in the Department of Surgery and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery and director of the Center for Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Washington, Wednesday, April 22 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Robbins Building, Room E-401.

Neligan will present the AOA Spring Visiting Professorship Lecture, “An Academic Career in Plastic Surgery.”

Neligan is an acknowledged expert in the field of reconstructive microsurgery and a pioneer in many reconstructive techniques. Originally from Ireland, Neligan is certified by the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons to practice in the United States, Canada and Ireland. He served as chief of plastic surgery at Toronto General Hospital from 1996 to 2007 before being recruited to the University of Washington to establish the Center for Reconstructive Surgery, where he currently serves as director.

Neligan is the author of seven books, more than 70 book chapters and more than 170 peer-reviewed articles. He has made more than 200 peer-reviewed presentations and is a highly sought-after speaker, serving as visiting professor to numerous institutions nationally and internationally.
