Ohio Supreme Court Justice, NASA director among alumni speakers

This year’s virtual homecoming celebration will feature some outstanding speakers for the non-traditional, yet special celebration. 

The Latinx Alumni Association with host Marla E. Pérez-Davis (GRS’ (GRS ‘91, chemical engineering), director of the NASA Glenn Research Center, for a conversation Thursday, Oct. 8, at 6 p.m. She will discuss her leadership journey and offer inspiration to the CWRU Latinx familia, especially students, to continue pursuing their career goals. 

Later on homecoming weekend, The African American Alumni Association will host a keynote address by Ohio Supreme Court Justice Melody Stewart (GRS ‘08, social welfare), who will speak on themes of  social justice and the importance of  voting. Following the keynote address, the African American Alumni Association Award Recipients will be honored. This year’s winners are:

  • Rising Star Award Recipient: Brian Webster (CWR ‘11)
  • Stephanie Tubbs Jones Awards Recipient: Dr. Teresa Dews (MED ‘88)
  • Ella Mae Johnson Service Award Recipient: Dr. Francis Curd (DEN ‘77)
  • Distinguished Academic Award Recipient: Dr. Joy Bostic 
  • President’s Award: Sharon Jenise Brown (CWR ‘98, MNO ‘00)

The celebratory event will kick off Saturday, Oct. 10, at noon.
