Mazanec, assistant professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, discussed caregiving roles. “In contemporary society, as women assume other roles in terms of work and family, male caregivers have stepped up and helped out with providing care and other needs,” said Mazanec. “It’s very important for oncology nurses to recognize that the primary caregiver in a situation could potentially be a man and that they, like women who are caregivers, will need to be educated, trained and supported in their role.”
