Do people living with HIV age prematurely?
Medscape: Joachim Voss, professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, discussed a new study that suggests people living with HIV may develop cardiovascular disease (CVD) and hypertension earlier than those without HIV, as well as chronic kidney disease. “We usually try to show accelerated aging through cell-based, epigenetic, or neurocognitive studies,” he explained. “This study focused on patient outcomes and used a matched cohort study approach, which cleverly accounted for many confounding variables.”
