Noted film critic to speak on campus in October

Noted film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum will visit Case Western Reserve University Oct. 3 from 12:30 to 1:45 in Clark Hall 309. Rosenbaum served as the film critic for the Chicago Reader for more than 20 years and has published more than 10 books on world cinema, including in-depth studies of Orson Welles and of Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami.

During the discussion Oct. 3, he will show rare footage shot by Orson Welles and talk about his experiences with Welles. The event is sponsored by the Speakers Committee of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Cleveland Cinematheque.

Additionally, the Cleveland Cinematheque will honor Rosenbaum with a special film series, “Ten from Jonathan Rosenbaum’s Top 100,” and on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., he will introduce a 1990 film by Catalan director Pere Portabella and lead a discussion afterward.

Rosenbaum and Ehrlich will be interviewed on WCPN’s “Around Noon” radio show Oct. 4.
