The nominees for the 2023 Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the 2023 J. Bruce Jackson, MD, Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring were recently announced.
Carl F. Wittke Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching
Established in honor of Carl Wittke in 1971, the Carl F. Wittke Award is presented each year to two faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching. Wittke was a faculty member, dean and vice president of Western Reserve University.

Bruce Jackson, MD, Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Mentoring
Established by J. Bruce Jackson in honor of Dean Carl F. Wittke, the Jackson Award recognizes faculty and staff members who have guided a student academically, fostered the student’s personal development, challenged the student to grow, and supported the student’s goals and life choices.
Wittke was an advisor, mentor and friend to Jackson while he was a student at Western Reserve University.
