Next UCITE session to feature discussion on active learning

The next University Center of Innovation in Technology and Education (UCITE) session will focus on active learning, on Thursday, April 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Herrick Room of the Allen Memorial Library Building.

Along with the creation of several high-tech classrooms that have the tools to enable active learning, Case Western Reserve University has also created the Active Learning Fellowship program to assist faculty members in making the most of these classrooms.

Three semesters of data have been collected from Case Western Reserve’s active learning initiative, composed of four new learning spaces and more than a dozen faculty fellows who have been a part of the Active Learning Fellowship. The next UCITE session will report on the data collected so far by Information Technology Services staff and will also feature faculty members discussing their experiences in developing and teaching active learning courses.

The goal of the session will be to help faculty learn about the challenges and opportunities in developing an active learning courses and how they can optimize their chances for success. Speakers will include Betsy Tracy, the Grace Longwell Coyle Professor of Social Work, and James Juergensen, Tina Oestreich, Brian Yuhnke, Mike Kenney, all from the ITS Academic Technologies team.

Lunch will be provided at this session. RSVP to the event by emailing ucite@case.edu.
