The Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program will host a panel discussion on school readiness Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Siegal Facility in Beachwood.
The event will help parents figure out if their children are ready for kindergarten. Recently, Ohio implemented a new holistic Kindergarten Readiness Assessment that is to be completed on all incoming kindergarteners. The panelists will address questions about the assessment, including:
- What is it measuring?
- How do preschool teachers prepare children to succeed in kindergarten?
- What skills are kindergarten teachers hoping to see in their new students?
The panel will be composed of:
- Rick Leibovich, kindergarten teacher at Mercer Elementary in the Shaker Heights School District
- Cathy Schreiber, kindergarten teacher at the University School
- Lauren Monowar-Jones, assistant director of early childhood and school readiness at the Ohio Department of Education
- Erica Wilkov, preschool teacher at the Ganon Gil Preschool of The Temple – Tifereth Israel
Rebekah Dorman, director of the Cuyahoga County Office of Early Childhood and Invest in Children, will moderate the discussion.
The event is free to attend, but preferred seating will cost $18.
Registration is available online.
