The Prevention Research Center for Healthy Neighborhoods (PRCHN) seminar series will continue with a multi-level evaluation of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program in Ohio.
Siran Koroukian, associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics, will present the seminar Wednesday, July 8, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in the PRCHN ground floor conference room of the BioEnterprise Building.
Koroukian will present findings from the evaluation of Ohio’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (BCCP). Breast cancer outcomes are compared across BCCP women and Medicaid beneficiaries, and in BCCP women age-transitioning to Medicare and their low-income counterparts with no history of participation in the BCCP. The findings are interpreted in the broader policy context of the post-Affordable Care Act era.
Koroukian is a health services researcher with an interest in outcomes and disparities research using population-health databases, including Medicare, Medicaid, cancer registry data, and health and retirement study. Her studies focus on cancer and aging and cancer-related disparities in vulnerable populations, including Medicaid beneficiaries with mental illness and/or with intellectual developmental disabilities.
Koroukian is the recipient of grants from the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society. She has been awarded a grant from the American Cancer Society to conduct a multi-level evaluation of Ohio’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program. Recent endeavors include methodological and empirical work on multimorbidity in older adults and its association with health outcomes.
The PRCHN monthly lunchtime seminar series features local and national experts presenting research on public health, food policy, and related issues. The PRCHN Seminar Series takes place on the second Wednesday of the month.
All seminars are free and open to the public. Parking is available.
