A wider variety of healthier food options are now present in vending machines on campus. Look for the green logo that indicates the item meets nutriSNACK guidelines.
AVI Foodsystems, Case Western Reserve University’s vendor, created the nutriSNACK selections to make it easier for customers to purchase items that meet the following criteria:
- 220 or less total calories per serving
- 30 percent or less of total calories from fat (nuts exempt)
- 1.5 grams or less of saturated fat
- 0 grams of trans fat
- 400 or less milligrams of sodium
- 35 percent or less sugar by weight (100 percent fruit items exempt),
or meets four of the above criteria and has at least 10 percent of the daily value of vitamins A, C or E and iron, calcium, protein or fiber.
“Live healthy. Eat healthy. Be healthy.” is the motto for the nutriSource program at AVI.
As CWRU expands health and wellness opportunities on campus, the university aims to increase the availability of healthier foods. A pilot program begins this week on the ground floor of the School of Nursing building, where a new “wellness” machine has been placed. This unit offers healthy snacks and fresh food that meet AVI’s nutriGOOD, nutriWISE, nutriSNACK and nutriTHIRST guidelines. Based on the success of the pilot program, additional machines may be placed in other locations throughout campus.
