Case Western Reserve will recognize staff next month with a celebration that includes prizes, refreshments, student performances, and more.
Dubbed “Thank Beyond the Possible” by Staff Advisory Council Chair JC Scharf-Deering, the event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Smith Commons of the Tinkham Veale University Center.
Scharf-Deering came up with the name after Vice President for Human Resources Carolyn Gregory asked her thoughts about the proposed gathering. Gregory originally came up with the idea after observing that March 2 is designated Employee Appreciation Day nationwide.
“Our staff members manage finances, maintain grounds, provide safety and assist with research experiments, department administration and so much more,” Gregory said. “Yet every one of them contributes to a common goal: to support and advance the university’s mission. Like the additional two paid days off at the end of 2017 and CWRU Take Two, this event offers another opportunity for us to express gratitude.”
President Barbara R. Snyder will speak at 2 p.m. March 2 to share her own thanks with staff. Other administrators—including Provost and Executive Vice President William “Bud” Baeslack III and Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine Pamela B. Davis—also will speak during the event.
Those attending can submit free entries—one per staff member—for a raffle, with awards including plane tickets, free and discounted meals at campus establishments, and more. One to One Fitness also will provide chair massages during the event.
In addition, human resources staff will be on hand to discuss university benefits, wellness programs and professional development opportunities. Other offices, including the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, also will be present.
The university encourages all supervisors to work to coordinate schedules so that provide each interested employee has the opportunity to attend the event at some point that afternoon.
