Nearly a mile of books up for sale at CWRU Book Sale 2012

Where can you find nearly a mile of books, music and more at bargain prices? Just stop by the 66th Annual CWRU Book Sale 2012 from Saturday, June 2, to Tuesday, June 5, in Adelbert Gym to see thousands of selections from popular novels to rare finds or autographed first editions.

Browse 20,000 quality paperbacks (many in new condition) with great pickings for vacation or beach reading. Collectors of old LPs, 45s, and 78s are in luck with a sizeable donation of classical, popular and jazz music. Or, if you like to sing or play an instrument, plenty of pop and vintage instrumental and vocal sheet scores are available.

The annual book sale, sponsored by the Association for Continuing Education (ACE), is a campus tradition to raise money for ACE programs and scholarship, said Joanne Blazek, ACE member and book sale chair.

“We’re here to find a perfect home for each of these books,” Blazek said.

There’s plenty to see and read among the mile-long offerings people have donated. A number of the 2012 special collectibles include donations from an anonymous donor who was a world traveler. This donor gave books in areas of art, railroading, hunting and sailing as well as travel and guidebooks that explore the countries visited.

Books are easily accessible and sorted into 12 departments to help browsers navigate the offerings. An expert in each department’s area can answer questions and assist in finding books. Some department highlights are: History (military and travel books), Foreign Languages (Russian, German and Asian), Textbooks (college), Literature (boxed sets), Science (nature and ecology), and Rare/Unusual (beautifully illustrated selections). The Children’s Department will have its “kids’ corner” where young readers can explore and read books while families browse.
