Nearly 2,250 donors go “All In” for CWRU’s 10th annual Day of Giving

For the fifth year in a row, more than 2,200 members of the Case Western Reserve community went ALL IN for the university’s Day of Giving.

The university’s Board of Trustees issued a challenge, pledging $20,000 for every 500 people that donated to the campuswide campaign. The generosity of faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and friends unlocked $80,000 in board matching funds, resulting in a total of $751,184 raised.

Several other challenges helped spur giving on April 5—from School of Law Dean Jessica Berg (GRS ‘09, public health), who matched $1,000 for law programs, to Andrew Medvedev (CWR ‘97), a trustee and member of the Weatherhead Visiting Committee, who matched $5,000 in donations for the Weatherhead School of Management.

Other alumni encouraged support, sharing their motivations for giving via social media. Aishwarya Arjunan (CWR ‘10), president of Case Western Reserve University’s Alumni Association Board, tweeted: “I choose to give because those who chose to give before me made it possible for me to attend [CWRU with a] scholarship,” inviting friends to join her with a gift to the Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Of the day’s 2,248 donors, 39% were alumni, 30% of participants gave for the first time, and 11% were current students. The School of Medicine raised the most of any group at $192,513, while Athletics led in number of supporters with 1,113 donors.

“The passion and dedication of our community speaks volumes about the value of a Case Western Reserve education,” said Carol Moss, senior vice president of university relations and development. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who participated in Day of Giving for investing in the university’s future.”
