NCAA names athletics department’s article on junior student-athletes as best reporting in Division III

Belay-LeveyA feature article written by assistant sports information director Nick Minerd was selected for top honors in a quarterly recognition program jointly sponsored by the NCAA Division III staff and the Division III College Sports Information Directors of America.

A panel of sports information officers representing the D3SIDA board of directors decided the feature, titled “Junior Student-Athletes Elshaday Belay and Leah Levey Working to Help Youth Soccer in Kenya,” was the best work—including news releases, feature articles, videos, blogs and other materials—produced in the Division III membership from September to December 2012.

The judges noted they liked the article’s portrayal of Division III attributes of passion, responsibility and citizenship, and for reporting the two CWRU student-athletes’ interaction with other University Athletic Association programs to obtain soccer equipment for Kenyan youths.

The panel also recognized work produced by McDaniel College and the State University of New York at Oswego for honorable mention. Division III will publicly announce the recognition on NCAA.org.
