The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded an $84,000, one-year grant to the team behind the online mapping tool designed to provide users with a real-time, location-based risk assessment for transmission of the novel coronavirus that leads to COVID-19.
The team is led by Yanfang (Fanny) Ye, the Theodore L. and Dana J. Schroeder Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Data Sciences and the Institute for Smart, Secure and Connected Systems (ISSACS) at the Case School of Engineering, and Kenneth Loparo, the Arthur L. Parker Professor and Faculty Director of ISSACS.
The tool, which has had several critical updates, including a new page with expanded data on transmission, can be accessed at covid-19.yes-lab.org.
The grant is part of NSF’s Rapid Response Research (RAPID) program, announced April 17. The foundation is funding dozens of COVID-19 research projects to “mobilize the scientific community to better understand and develop measures to respond to the virus.”
