In an effort to reduce opioid overdoses and save lives, University Health and Counseling Services (UHCS) has partnered with Project DAWN, University Hospitals and CWRU EMS to offer free Naloxone—commonly known as Narcan—and training at various locations across campus.
Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses, and no prescription is needed to receive it or the training. If you know someone who uses opioids—for pain management or due to a substance use disorder—you should learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose, what steps to take after a suspected overdose, and consider carrying Naloxone.
Training is available by request through UHCS, or at health and safety events on campus throughout the semester. Members of the campus community can also watch a short training video from the CDC to learn the basics of administering Naloxone.
Naloxone is available for pickup at the UHCS, LGBT Center and Flora Stone Mather Center for Women offices, and can also be found in AED kits across campus for emergency situations.
Visit the UHCS website for more information on Naloxone resources and off-campus locations where you can get it.
If you suspect an overdose, call 216.368.3333 on campus or 911 off campus, and locate the nearest AED or Naloxone kit. Recognizing the signs of overdose and acting quickly can save lives.
