Stephen Hefling, professor of musicology, will present a lecture on Gustav Mahler’s love letters—a topic about which he was prominently featured in The New York Times earlier this summer.
Hefling hopes to publish a 59-page love letter from Mahler, a composer who was seen as fairly chaste, to one of his lovers. The document is “a fairly complete account of love affairs with quite a number of people,” Hefling told The New York Times.
Hefling’s lecture, part of the Department of Music’s Colloquia, will be Friday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. in the Harkness Chapel classroom. The event is free and open to the public.
