Music education’s Matthew Garrett publishes article on the LGBTQ component of music teacher training

Matthew L. Garrett, assistant professor of music education and director of choirs recently had his article, “The LGBTQ Component of 21st-Century Music Teacher Training: Strategies for Inclusion from the Research Literature” published in UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education.

The article contains suggestions to develop inclusive learning environments for sexual minority students and children of same-sex parents.

In October, he served as guest conductor for the South Carolina Choral Directors Association High School Women’s Honor Choir at Coastal Carolina University.
