Music conference: “Theorizing African American Music”

=Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Music invites all members of the campus community to a conference, “Theorizing African American Music,” June 16–18 from 2 to 8:30 p.m. in the Harkness Chapel Classroom.

The conference intends to provide a new platform for all scholars interested in the theory and analysis of African American music. “Theorizing African American Music” will highlight African American perspectives on music and music theory, and those that have historically been marginalized in the academic study of music in the United States.

This conference is hosted by Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Music, and supported by Oberlin Conservatory, the School of Music at the University of Louisville, and the Society for Music Theory.
