Cheryl Toman, professor of French and chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, spoke at the Belgian Embassy in Paris for Panorama de la Francophonie: des projets structurants (Overview of Francophonie: growth-generating projects), hosted by a diplomatic group representing Wallonie-Bruxelles, a French-speaking region of Belgium.
Toman spoke on the role of the professional organization Biennale de la Langue Française (Biennial of the French Language), for which she serves as president. The organization promotes the French language worldwide while providing support for scholars, teachers and industry leaders.
In attendance were representatives of 66 professional organizations recognized by French government as well as other French government officials.
