All members of the Case Western Reserve University community who use a Microsoft Windows computer should run Windows Update to fix a critical security issue. On Monday, July 20, Microsoft released a security patch for all supported versions of Windows. The patch (MS15-078) fixes a vulnerability that, if left unaddressed, could allow a remote attacker to take action against your Windows computer.
To check for and install Windows updates:
- Ensure the data on your computer is backed up
- Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button and typing “Windows Update” into the search field.
- In the left pane of the Windows Update screen, click “Check for updates,” and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
- Once updates are found, click “Install updates.” If you are not an administrator of the computer, contact the system administrator for guidance.
