Today (Aug. 14), Microsoft Office 365 will be available from the Software Center for faculty, staff and students, which will replace Office 2016. In addition to the usual Microsoft desktop applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Office 365 offers online versions of the apps that are similar to Google Docs and Sheets.
Outlook users should note that the online version of Outlook is not compatible with the university mail service provided by Google and will not receive any email. All mail will be delivered to Google mailboxes. See University Technology’s guide on Microsoft 365 for a list of supported and unsupported online apps.
Mobile Office apps are available at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Documents can be stored in the cloud using OneDrive and can be accessible from any device, whether university owned or personal.
When using the desktop, online, tablet or phone Office apps, log in with CWRU email address (e.g. abc123@case.edu) and university passphrase. The system also uses Duo authentication.
Upgrading to Office 365 is optional. However, it is recommended to uninstall older versions of Office before upgrading to Office 365.
