Men’s basketball to play second-round NCAA tournament contest on campus Friday

Tickets go on sale today (March 9) at noon for Case Western Reserve’s men’s basketball playoff game Friday at Horsburgh Gymnasium in the Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center.

The Spartans take on University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Crusaders at 8 p.m., following a 5 p.m. matchup between Elmhurst and Calvin universities. The winners of the two contests will meet at 8 p.m. Saturday in Horsburgh. (Tickets for Saturday’s games will become available March 12 at 6 a.m.)

In their inaugural trip to the NCAA’s Division III Championship Tournament last weekend, the Spartans won their first game Friday in overtime and their second the following night in the game’s final seconds. Both games took place at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Returning to play last fall after COVID-19 canceled the 2020-21 season, the team has seen a series of historic achievements: best start after nine games (8-1), longest winning streak (12 games) and most regular season wins (18). The team also made its first appearances in the D3hoops national weekly poll, ranking as high as 23rd
