Local researchers working to stop fungal threat

AxiosMahmoud Ghannoum, professor at the School of Medicine, discussed the increase in the deadly C. auris infections in the U.S. and his research seeking to curb the spread. C. auris is “particularly scary” given its resistance to antifungal drugs. “It can survive on skin and healthcare surfaces (for up to two weeks, allowing the spread from person to person in healthcare settings and nursing homes,” Ghannoum said.
