Medicine’s Marsha Michie discussed neonatal screenings for genetic disorders

The scientific method: Prenatal genetic tests are popular, but the results can be misleading

WAMU: Marsha Michie, assistant professor of bioethics at the School of Medicine, discussed neonatal screenings for genetic disorders. “They can do these very complicated mathematical calculations to see whether there might be too much or too little of what we expect of certain genetic material. The rarer a condition is, mathematically speaking, those calculations become more and more difficult,” Michie said.
