Professor discusses post-pandemic death rates

Spectrum NewsMark Cameron, associate professor at the School of Medicine, discussed new data from the National Center for Health Statistics showing the U.S. is no longer reporting significantly higher-than-average weekly deaths. By comparison, there were some weeks seeing excess rates as high as 46% during the height of the pandemic in early 2021. “We are ahead of the virus—at this point in time,” he said. “But that can change. Year over year, since 2020, this is the calm before the storm.”
