Why Vermont’s COVID-19 surge isn’t surprising

Vermont Public Radio: Mark Cameron, associate professor at the School of Medicine, provided insight into a spike in breakthrough COVID-19 cases in the state of Vermont, noting that one reason is the time of year: “The weather turns colder, we go back indoors,” he said. But he also pointed out that “vaccinated individuals have less risk of hospitalization and death if they do become infected. Even if the virus gains entry into our cells, the vaccinated individuals already have a memory response to fight the virus before it truly injures our lungs.”
