Medical Mutual offers dedicated support to new enrollees

In late August, Case Western Reserve announced the selection of Medical Mutual (MMO) as the university’s sole insurance plan administrator for the 2021 calendar year. This is a part of the university’s ongoing efforts to reduce increases in benefits costs while maintaining access to a broad range of providers. As a result of this decision, most employees will see no increase in health premiums for the 2021 calendar year.

To assist faculty and staff who will be newly enrolling in Medical Mutual for 2021, MMO has set up a dedicated website for CWRU employees. In addition, a dedicated customer service number (877.480.3110) is available to assist employees who will be new to Medical Mutual.

The university will continue to offer its three health insurance options (high-deductible health plan, preferred provider organization and health maintenance organization—also known as HDHP, PPO and HMO). Also, the designs of the plans—such as the nature of services covered and the portion the employee pays—remain unchanged. Additionally, Medical Mutual partners with Aetna and AXA to provide faculty and staff additional coverage beyond Ohio and even outside of the U.S. Learn more about the plan (PDF).

As in past years, faculty and staff will be able to enroll in the university’s health benefit program in November. All enrolled in Anthem plans for 2020 are encouraged to actively choose one of the Medical Mutual plans during open enrollment. If no choice is made, Anthem participants will be automatically enrolled in the comparable Medical Mutual plan.

Given this is a significant change for those currently with Anthem, the university and Medical Mutual will host open information sessions later this month and throughout open enrollment. Registration information will be available in The Daily and on the Human Resources website.
