Med and Law’s Susan Hatters-Friedman discusses new study about SSRI’s and Postpartum Depression

Antidepressants provide long-term benefits for women with postpartum depression
HealthlineSusan Hatters-Friedman, the Phillip Resnick Professor of Forensic Psychiatry and an adjunct professor at the School of Law, discussed a new study that found that taking SSRI antidepressants can significantly help women who have depression after giving birth. “This study of tens of thousands of mothers showed that taking antidepressants in the postpartum for depression brought long-term benefits to the family,” she said. “Mothers shouldn’t have guilt about taking care of their own mental health.”
