Bells ring again from the McGaffin Tower as the summer weekend concert series begins this Friday & Sunday. Friday concerts are 12:15-12:45 p.m., repeated on Sundays at 11-11:30 a.m. Bring a lunch, bring a friend, and park free at the Church of the Covenant. Chairs and shade umbrellas available. July 7/9, a celebration of “Summertime,” including an arrangement of George Gershwin’s famous aria from Porgy and Bess (Covenant and University Circle Carillonneur George Leggiero); July 14/16, “Made in America,” featuring works by American composers (guest artist Patrick Macoska); July 21/23, a selection of Dutch folk tunes and carillon works by Dutch composers in recognition of the McGaffin Carillon’s Dutch makers and Dutch-American visitors (Leggiero); and July 28/30 “Love Songs from Hymns, Opera, Theater, & the Movies” (guest artist David Osburn). August concert themes are TBA. Leggiero will play on Aug. 4/6 and 25/27; Macoska, Aug. 11/13; and Osburn, Aug. 18/20. The 2017 concerts are presented by the Friends of the McGaffin Carillon in University Circle with the support of the Leonard Krieger Fund of the Cleveland Foundation and in partnership with the Church of the Covenant.
