Weatherhead School of Management graduate student Abe Weiner was part of a team of urban design graduate students from Kent State, Cleveland State and Case Western Reserve universities that received an honorable mention from the 2013 Urban Land Institute Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition. The competition received 149 submissions focused on redeveloping several blocks in downtown Minneapolis.
The team, “Active East,” submitted a proposal focused on maximizing opportunities for physical activity year round, which included extending the new Minnesota Vikings pro-football stadium’s pedestrian spaces into the surrounding urban neighborhood, configuring buildings to block winds and allow for more sunlight and increasing the use of outdoor spaces during winter months.
