Mark Votruba of Weatherhead talks about unemployment and recovery post-crisis

Record breaking unemployment as coronavirus spreads

NBC-Youngstown/ WFMJ: Mark Votruba, associate professor of economics at the Weatherhead School of Management, commented that the staggering number of new unemployment claims in Ohio and nationally are to be expected when there have been such unprecedented social distancing measures enacted: “I think the idea that you’re going to flip a switch and everything will be back to normal is certainly wrong. There are a lot of pieces of the economy and parts that have got to be moved into place for things to get revved up again,” he said, adding that the longer the situation continues: “The possibility of this turning into something truly disastrous will definitely increase.”
