The Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences announces Conversations in Philanthropy, a three-part speaker series this spring sponsored by its Master of Nonprofit Organizations (MNO) program. Each event will feature two leaders in the philanthropic community who will engage in a discussion about the state of philanthropy and its civic role, followed by a reception. Free and open to all, although RSVPs are required and there is a charge for Continuing Education Units.
The first installment of the series will focus on the topic “Understanding Philanthropy: What you need to know about the field” on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Mandel Community Studies Center.
The history of Cleveland is replete with the names of philanthropists who have made a lasting impact on the face of our community and beyond. As home to the world’s first community foundation and the precursor to the United Way movement, Cleveland claims an historic role in the philanthropic sector. Today, philanthropy looks much different than it did 100 years ago. This session will explore the landscape of the philanthropic sector and the important role it has in social change in today’s world with speakers Marcia Egbert, senior program officer at George Gund Foundation, and John Gest, managing director of the Northern Ohio Office of Philanthropy.
One Continuing Education Unit (CEU) per event available for social workers. The cost is $10 for Case Western Reserve alumni and $25 for non-alumni. Make a CEU request when time of RSVP. The entire lecture must be attended to receive a CEU.
RSVP by emailing Maria.Sharron@case.edu or calling 216.368.0266.
