MaDaCol celebrates 30th anniversary with performances this weekend

mad-300x225More than 50 Case Western Reserve University graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and community members will restage some favorite dances from the past to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Case Western Reserve’s Mather Dance Collective (MaDaCol), founded in 1984.

MaDaCol 30th Anniversary event will run April 10-11 at 8 p.m. and April 12 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. All performances take place at Mather Dance Center.

The celebration features four restaged works highlighting some of MaDaCol’s finest moments, beginning with Janet Meskin’s 1984 work, Scandals. Also returning to the Mather Dance Center stage are Kathleen Kohatsu’s Waterwheel, choreographed in 2002, and MingMing Liu’s 2006 work Red Fan My Way. The concert will close with the return of Karina Browne’s Victory of the Feet from the 2012-13 season.

Also featured is senior dance major Eve Lanyi’s capstone work, inspired by the book Walls by Marcello de Cintio. This new piece for seven dancers is set to the music of Astor Piazzolla and explores some dynamics between individuals and groups of people.

No reservations are needed. Tickets are $5 at the door before each performance. Visit dance.case.edu for information.
