Mei indicated that a connection between coronaviruses—a group of viruses ranging from the common cold to SARS and COVID-19—and brain ailments would not be new: “People have known about this for a number of years. … No doubt, for other coronaviruses, the virus can be detected in the brain and neurons can be altered.”
